ILOILO--The city of love has once again showcased its fashion prowess in the recently concluded, 6th Iloilo Fashion Gala, held at the second floor of SM City South Point.
With the theme, NEXT, Ilonggo designers took on the challenge of translating the future of fashion. Here are Mhalyari’s highlights!
1. Glen Paracale
Paracale opened the show with vigoruous leopard prints and tuscan yellows---further elevated by corsets and saddle bags made from faux reptilia leather. The designer has undoubtedly created a marriage of textures and brought the savannas on the runway!
2. John Larlar
Intricately beaded and vibrant florals, checkerds, paired with pallest fabrics and pearled skirt, John Larlar took the visuals to a sub-urb European summer. The vintage glasses, cloche, and head scarf spell zephyrs and an early bakery run.
3. Fritz Caancan
Making a statement, Caancan plays with the art of ostentation and monochromes, painting the runway with red and geometric plays
4. Trinie Pauline
Showcasing her signature hand work, Trinie amplified her chaotic crochets with additional solid pieces and vibrant yellows. Distressed haute? Count us in!
5. Anthony Alor
Femuline looks, petticoats, and corsets. Alor's gender defying collection braced the runway with a powerful statement.
6. Ysther Grejaldo
Gracing the night gala are Grejaldo's voluminous tulls and intricate beadery. The soft yet full glamour bewitched the audience with its celestial appeal.
7. Paul Conte
Conte took us back in the 2018 MET Gala with his mellow gothic collection. The varying silhouettes paletted in black, white, and gold spiced up the night with an enigmatic drama.
8. Jeff Ticao
Curating a union of two cultures, Ticao has regally made a collection celebrating the beauty of Filipinianas and traditional oriental wear. The blue and white reference from oriental potteries found a perfect pair on intricate embroideries and golden embelishments.
The 6th Iloilo Fashion gala is a testament of the evolving fashion zeitgest of Ilonggos. The designers' eclectic and intrepid approach in curating their collection is an exciting step to bracing what's NEXT in Ilonggo artistry. What do you think will be the theme for the next year's gala? Let us know your guesses! -Mhalyari
